Rasam’s opens in Sunnyvale – Mercury News

New in Sunnyvale: On the burgeoning Sunnyvale culinary scene that is Murphy Avenue, a new contemporary Indian restaurant is doing riffs on cuisine from Maharashtra in the west to Assam in the east. Owned by Narender Ramarapu, the upscale Rasam’s, with its accompanying IC Lounge, bills itself as a modern Hindustani specialist, serving fusion versions of India’s traditional regional dishes. From the tandoor oven comes “Chicken Blu dane,” which adds — you guessed it — Danish blue cheese to the traditional yogurt-marinated, baked chicken. A spicy lamb curry, “Bhuna gosht Shirazi,” is cooked with Shiraz wine and accented by rose petals. “Lobster Caldeen” features a coconut sauce from coastal Goa.

Small plates range from a chutney sampler to chaat bites, and there will be a rasam (tamarind-based soup) of the day. The IC Lounge serves cocktails, small plates, plus late-evening Bollywood music.
